Task board software with the statuses your work actually follows
A task board is the simplest thing that works: columns for each stage of the work, one card per task, and a shared view the whole team can read without a translation layer. Teams usually land here when the spreadsheet version stops holding up. Taskora runs your task board with custom statuses, the backlog beside it, and the docs next to the cards. It's one flat plan at $10/seat/mo billed yearly, free to start, no credit card.
No credit card, and early members lock in up to 70% off at launch.
What a task board is, in plain terms
The idea is older than every tool that sells it. The software version adds the shared view and the history, and nothing about it changed.
Columns are the stages the work passes through. Todo, Doing, Done is the starting sketch, and the honest version is the one that names the steps your team uses, from design review to handoff.
Each card is one task: what it is, who has it, and when it's due. If a card needs the why, the doc that explains it sits one click from the card.
The board answers what the status meeting used to chase. Anyone can see what moved and what's stuck without asking.
Support queues, launch checklists, hiring pipelines, and the editorial calendar all fit the same shape.
What the Taskora board does
The whole board comes in the one flat plan for growing teams, and there's no second tier where the rest of it waits.
A stream is a project with its own board. Each project keeps its own statuses, and the launch board never has to look like the ops board.
You pick the statuses and which moves are allowed between them, so the process you decided on is the process the board enforces.
The backlog sits beside the board and holds the work the current cycle hasn't picked up, visible to the whole team rather than living in someone's head.
Versioned docs sit in the same workspace as the board, so the why behind a card doesn't live in a different app.
Task board or kanban software?
The two searches are cousins and the pages that answer them rarely say how they differ. A task board is the shape. Kanban board software is the method: pull work when there's room for it, watch how fast it moves, and cap what piles up. If you're weighing the method, the kanban board software page covers it, and the plain-language kanban guide explains where the terms come from.
The shape is the whole product for plenty of teams, and they ship fine without a method attached.
The board looks identical either way, and the discipline around it is the real difference.
You can start with the plain board and add the method later. Whichever one you start with, the columns don't change, and neither does the board you already drew.
Work-in-progress caps aren't a Taskora feature. They're a practice you run on any board, not something you buy.
What moving onto a board takes
Picking the wrong board is the expensive part. Here's the move, and it's a manual one.
Put the work in flight on the board first. The archive can stay in the files you exported from the old tool, and a full export of your Taskora data is available on request at any time.
Set the statuses to how the work moves now, not how a methodology says it should. Renaming a column isn't a paid upgrade here.
One board per real project keeps the statuses usable, and teams running different processes get their own columns.
If your data can't leave your network, self-hosted and air-gapped deployments are on request at the same flat price, just email hello@taskora.ai.
Questions
- What is a task board?
- A shared board where each card is one task and each column is a stage of the work. Start with the obvious three and rename them to the steps your team runs.
- Is a task board the same as a kanban board?
- It's the same board. Kanban adds a method on top of it: pull the next task when capacity frees up, watch the flow, and cap work in progress. The plain-language kanban guide covers the method in full.
- Can we move our tasks from the tool we use now?
- By hand. Taskora is export-only today, so you export from the old tool and rebuild the live work on the board. Once the work is here, you can request a full export of your Taskora data at any time.
- Is Taskora free?
- Free to start until November 1, no credit card. After that, there's a 14-day free trial. We don't offer a permanent free tier today.
- How much does Taskora cost?
- Free, no credit card needed. After that, one flat plan from $10/seat/mo (yearly, save 23%) or $13/seat/mo (monthly). Every feature is in that plan.

Move one real project onto a board here and give it a full week with your own columns. If the board carries the week, you have your answer. If the columns fight the work, that's an answer too. It's free to start until November 1, no credit card.
